Be a Lifesaver
April 26 to June 30

Did you know that Friends of Upland Animal Shelter provides some form of veterinary care to the thousands of animals we shelter every year?

We routinely provide vaccinations and medications to combat common ailments such as kennel cough and skin conditions.  Some of our more unfortunate animals also need more advanced treatments or corrective surgeries.  And, some of our most sick and injured animals need emergency surgeries to even survive.

Veterinary care is not only essential for the health, comfort, and well-being of our animals, it ensures that they are adoptable and can find their forever homes sooner.

Friends is not compensated by the City of Upland. Instead, we provide all sheltering services and supplies FREE of charge to the City while maintaining low-cost adoption fees for the community.  Luckily, the shelter has a long-standing arrangement with Western University of Health Sciences to have student veterinarians perform spay and neuter services for only the cost of supplies.  This helps to reduce, but not completely offset, our substantial veterinary costs.  However, from May until August when Western University of Health Sciences is on a summer break (and during winter and spring breaks), we must pay for every animal that is adopted to be fixed by local veterinarians, which increases our spring and summer costs.

That is why we are telling you about our "Be a Lifesaver" Medical Donation Drive and seeking your support right now.  Your donation will help us provide basic, advanced, and emergency veterinary care for all animals by local veterinarians and provide medicines and supplies all year long.

Be a Lifesaver Event

Adopt a Pet & Show Your Support

We invite you to be a lifesaver at our Open House & Pet Adoption Fair on Saturday, June 8th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  You can save a life by choosing to adopt a pet or by showing your support at the event.

Adopt a Pet:  If you are looking to add a furry friend to your family, several rescues and shelters will have dogs and cats for adoption.  As we like to say, "adopt, don't shop" and save a life.

Show Your Support: There will be many ways to show your support. Shop our vendor boutique and Friends will receive a portion of the proceeds. Buy raffle tickets to bid on several raffle baskets and bid on silent auction items.  And, buy raffle tickets for our wonderful and one-of-a-kind 2019 Medical Donation Drive raffle prizes.

Microchip & Vaccinate Your PetUpland Animal Hospital will be donating their time to do $10 microchipping during the event.  This is one of the best ways to make sure a lost pet is found.  Plus, they'll be offering $8 rabies and other low-cost vaccinations.

Alumni Pets:  We love seeing our alumni and hearing how they are doing with their new families.  If you adopted your pet from Friends of Upland Animal Shelter, please stop by the raffle booth with your pet to receive a FREE raffle ticket for any of the raffle baskets.

This event, and all of the proceeds, will support Friends of Upland Animal Shelter's goal to raise at least $20,000 during our 2019 Medical Donation Drive.  Every day, one or more of our animals needs some kind of medical aid.  Being able to provide routine, advanced, and life-saving treatments and surgeries is part of what it takes to save them all.  If you haven't done so already, please make a donation to help us reach our goal.  And, be sure to join us on June 8th for a fun and rewarding event.
