You Can Help Our Shelter Pets Be Well

It's heartbreaking when an animal is sick or injured,
but you can help us raise $20,000 to help them all.

All of our animals need some level of medical care during their stay with us.  We routinely need medications to combat common ailments such as kennel cough and skin conditions, and must spay and neuter every animal to prevent pet overpopulation.  Some of our more unfortunate animals also need corrective or life-saving surgery.  Medical care is not only essential for the comfort and well-being of an animal, it ensures that he or she is adoptable and can find a forever home sooner.

Take Shirley for example. She was transferred to Friends from another shelter because she is a sweet little girl who deserves the time and patience it takes to find a loving family.  Because she had what appeared to be a hernia, we scheduled her for surgery right away.  But, she was also suffering from kennel cough and had to get over it before she could have surgery.  She finally had her surgery, and not a minute too soon.  The veterinarian said that the hernia was about to burst, and if that had happened, Shirley would likely have died. It's times like these that remind us how critical it is to have funds available for not only regular medical care, but also more costly emergency surgeries.  Shirley's incision runs the length of her torso, but she is recovering nicely.  Not only did she get a second chance at life, she has also been adopted. We are so thankful her new family will give her a great home and make sure she continues to heal and thrive.
